I came from parents that were super strict and he didn’t. I came from parents that were tight with their money and he didn’t. Do you see the problem?
We began a marriage with very different views on money. I knew immediately this needed to be addressed. I was being critical about every penny spent and he was being careless with money we didn’t have. (Babe, you know it’s true.)
About that time our church (City Hope Church) was offering a class about financing and budgeting. We didn’t have time to attend the class held at church but we invested in the DVDs and materials.
$109.00 may seem like a lot of money but the knowledge gained from these materials changed our lives and our marriage.
Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University works. It’s as simple as that.
We started this journey in August 2017, by downloading the app Everydollar and attempting to set a budget.
September 2017, we received our materials and began watching the DVDs. It took a couple of months to get our budget accurate. If you decide to use Everydollar, I recommend sitting down at a computer for the first month’s budget. It’s more user friendly than on a mobile phone. However, once the month is set, adding transactions is easy on the mobile app as well.
It’s been a year.
We now have an emergency fund, we’re no longer renting, went on a mini vacation and have a little savings account.
And as of today….
We’ve paid off $12,026 in debt!!!!!
I’m not bragging, but sharing the power you can have over your money and your life. If you’re tired of having too much month left at the end of your money, I urge you to start budgeting. You will be surprised how much you waste on nothing. Don’t get me wrong, we don’t save every penny possible, we still have what I call a “junk budget” for stuff we just want, rather than need.
We’ve been doing this on one and half careers. My husband is still attending college so he only has time for part time employment. If we can do this, anyone can.
Do it! Try it today! You won’t regret it!
